Hello, my name is Paul Smart and I would like to invite you and your company to sponsor my car for the 2007 Auto 66 Yorkshire Speed Hillclimb and sprint season.
Hillclimbing provides good spectator viewing of the action and also allows the spectators to get close to the cars with free pit and paddock access at most events. Whilst the sport is very competitive, it is also has a friendly atmosphere and attracts men and women competitors of all ages.
Hillclimbing is a branch of motor sport in which drivers compete against the clock to complete an uphill course. It is one of the oldest forms of motor sport, the first known hillclimb took place as long ago as 31 January 1897. The hillclimb held at Shelsley Walsh, in Worcestershire, England is the world's oldest continuously-staged motor sport event still staged on its original course, having been first run in 1905.
The UK's longest permanent speed hill climb is at Stockton Farm Harewood, which is 10 miles north of Leeds. Harewood Hillclimb course is 1448 mtrs long rising from the bottom of the Wharfe Valley up the hill side to the finish at the top. Cars can reach speeds in excess of 130 mph on the tarmac track which is around 4 mtrs wide. Cars range from road going saloons, through sports cars to full blown single seater race cars with F1 engines.
The car I will be competing in for the 2007 season is a fully race modified Peugeot 205 GTI. The car is new to me for this season and has competed very sucessfully north of the border where it has won the Scottish hillclimb and sprint championship class for 2001 and 2003.
A bit about the driver:
My name is Paul Smart, I am 38 years old and live in Woodlesford nr Leeds. I have been competing in motor sport events on and off for the past 12 years, taking time off in between to start a family, start and run my own business, take up skydiving and few other extreme sports. My heart has always been with cars and motor sport and I competed in the Auto66 championship last year in my first full season back in the sport. I had a decent first season driving a semi competitive car and missing 4 events due to engine problems I still managed a second place at Cadwell park and an overall position of 15 th out of 50 plus drivers. This year I am hoping for much better results and I have started the ball rolling with the purchase of a class winning car that I am now in the process of preparing for the coming season.
As everyone knows motor sport is an expensive hobby and I fund the running of the car myself with a little help from local businesses, friends and associates. As well as the cost of the car a full season of motor sport can soon add up to a tidy sum when you have event fees, fuel and tyres, transport costs and any parts that may be required during the season.
A sponsorship from yourself would be greatly appreciated however large or small an amount you can afford. Sponsorship does not always have to be hard cash either, if you were able to supply parts, oil etc up to an agreed value throughout the year that would also be of help as I would have to buy these parts anyway.
PLEASE REMEMBER : Sponsorship is a deductible tax allowance for your business. If you have a corporation tax liability of 30% then this amount is effectively returned to yourselves as tax relief. For example a sponsorship bid of £1000.00 would be worth £300.00 in tax relief, this means you would get £1000.00 worth of media sponsorship for the price of £700.00 which is a BARGAIN!!!
